I never truly got to scratch
That way down deep eternal itch
Nor ever wrote the sort of words
That changed the reader and his world
I never braved a mountain peak
Or dove in water from a cliff
Nor ever garnered world-wide fame
Or got the adulation of the crowd
My happiness, tho’ does consist
In stuff that’s simpler, yet more profound,
The fall planting of yellow tulips
And the priceless gift of loving hugs.
