Blogpost # M. 274 FORECASTING DEMOCRACY

Upon his morning awakening and arousal, Man’s predictable terpsichorean performance commences with parting the bedroom curtains to sleepily peer at the day’s weather and then mindlessly clicking on the radio for the day’s weather forecast and the latest news. There is no similar activity, conceivably, to ascertain the current state or forecast of the current state of democracy, such as ” mostly constitutional, but with a 23% chance of MAGA.”

Democracy is not an impersonal, natural dynamic that evinces itself upon anecdotal reference, but rather, the positive consequence of an informed community dynamically dedicated to its beneficial endurance. It is not a matter of the positive occurrence of fortuitous events, but rather the successful end product of diligent and dedicated curation. The gradual metastasizing of our Democratic Republic to a disgraceful and nightmarish autocracy, presided over by the present Trump Administration and its loyal menagerie of lieutenants, cheered on by its MAGA base of America’s underbelly, is not, like meteorology, a dynamic product of forces outside of human intention.

The seemingly limitless and endless foul atmosphere, presently hovering over our precious democracy, and its previous temporally improving history of ongoing advancement toward the goal of a perfect union of free and fully equal citizens, is not the effect of unseen and uncontrollable forces beyond the control of the ultimately determinative American citizen. Unlike a response to the prevailing weather, it mandates no accommodation, relevant adjustment, or abject resignation. A positive and confident rejection is the most cogent and appropriate elixir for the recuperation of our precious Democratic Republic and the confident assurance of the American salubrious and aspirational way of life.

We have often quoted the wise and lyrical words of the late Elie Wiesel, who declared, “The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference.” In a similar dynamic, we would take the liberty of respectfully altering such sage words to affirmatively state: “Despotic governance is not improperly accommodated but adamantly and appropriately rejected by a democratically dedicated citizenry.”

Our intended theme amounts to a remonstrance to all mainstream, democracy-loving Americans, as to the cogent avoidance of feelings of helplessness, resignation, or accommodation to Trump’s aspiration to monarchical autocracy, as the same would ultimately prove to be democratically suicidal. By contrast, the maintenance of articulated outrage and an adamant confidence in the soon-to-be restored traditions of our Democratic Republic, rationally and tactically, would inarguably be more fruitful and effective.

The rational response to the quotidian weather forecast is acceptance, and where relevant, accommodation. By marked contrast, the existentially appropriate response to the venal Trump Administration is one of loyal citizen resistance and the concomitant maintenance of the continued aspiration for the enduring future of our profoundly cherished democracy.
