We had not succeeded in our many attempts to comprehend the empirical dynamics of the extent of hostility and virtual hatred generated by the societal existence of divergent political beliefs. As noted in earlier writings, the American forefathers, maintained the expectation (now perceived, by us as pollyannaish), that within the context of the new Nation’s liberty and freedom of speech, informed citizens would interactively and socially engage in principled debate on the issues of the day and that the results of such dedicated debates would inform Government policy, thus achieving the desired goal of the philosophically intended, “Government, by and for the People.”

Alas, just the contrary occurred. As we have extensively written, differences in opinion led to acrimonious societal divisiveness to the extent of “tribal” groups sharing a mutual opinion in a state of hostility or “cold war” with other groups of disparate views. Rather than interactive discussion and attempts at accommodation, the Nation incubated a palpably overt hatred of individuals of divergent opinions. It was no longer a singular to experience familial strife and the discontinuance of long-term friendships founded in the divisive strain generated by hotly contested issues, such as abortion, gun control immigration, tax inequity, vaccination, racial and gender equality, homosexuality, and gender issues, educational policy, religionism, global warming and the environment, the need for governmental regulatory supervision of societal health and safety, and religious influence in civil government.

Political influencers, most notably, the democracy-corrupting influence of Donald J. Trump, promoted and encouraged such rancorous division benefiting from his cult-like support by the disgruntled, reductionist populists (MAGA) in the Nation. Negativity, conspiratorial ideations, and atavistically hateful approaches to societally important issues such as equality, racial, ethnic, and gender, tactically served Trump’s autocratic purpose of societal alienation and hostility which defined and strengthened his political influence notably, among the Nation’s large inventory of less-than-adequately educated populists. The reputed just and liberally enlightened, modern American society was reduced to evincing a divisive, rancorous, mistrustful conglomeration of mistrustful and adamant oppositionists.

Our Nation has historically enjoyed success from its aspiration toward the universally accepted idiom “E Pluribus Unum,” and to true equality and rational cohesion. Our present writing is a sincere utilitarian suggestion as to the amelioration of the prevailing negativity and divisive rancor, and hopefully. restoration to its prior condition.

It may be useful at this juncture, to momentarily change the subject, in aid of our radical-seeming, perhaps simplistic, and ubiquitously applicable suggestion employing an explanation of our title, which has reference to the common roof-top phenomenon known as a “weather vane.” As universally known and recognized, the weather vane is a simple device, installed on the roof of a building structure (usually residential) which, by its simple mobility, indicates the general direction of the wind current. The object often is presented in the configured shape of a chicken but is also seen in various other farm-related configurations. The singular function is to indicate the extant direction of the wind current, in concert with its simultaneous direction. The salient point is that the weather vane functionally changes in sync with the changing direction of the wind current and serves as an analogy, to the dynamics of our contextual theme.

Our thematic suggestion is proposed in aid of the existential need to ameliorate the divisive rancor existing among our citizenry in theory is inarguably simplistic. Nevertheless, at the risk of an indictment for being reductive, we will sincerely reveal it, but admittedly, with the caveat that its implementation would require substantial thought and dedicated ingenuity.

It may be salubrious to suggest that American citizens make an earnest attempt to concentrate on what they approve of, in contrast to what they vehemently oppose. With the appropriate impetus, the change could be as facile as the shifting of the weather vane responsive to the alteration in breeze direction. The eternal angry opposition to principles deemed detestable has proven not to be productive of concession or adjustment of adamantly adverse opinion. Angry opposition or vehement rejection is not, by any degree of measurable utility, nearly as useful and accommodating as overt and positive statements of belief. This change of direction might well encourage responsible debate instead of blind anger and afford the result of a socially acceptable community, s mutually seeking positive improvement and advancement.

A change of the National weather vane to a cooling breeze would be useful and immeasurably preferable to the continuance of a stagnant and heated atmosphere.

Our Nation’s history reveals a mixed experience of good, and not-so-good, Presidential leadership, One might compare the laudable Presidential services of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Franklyn Roosevelt, and more recently,of Barack Obama, with the less-than-desirable service of Presidents, Andrew Jackson or Richard Nixon; however, there exists no valid empirical comparison with the bizarre, nightmarish record of the persona of President Donald Trump.

We had endeavored for a considerable period to comprehend Trump’s nuanced persona. whose single term of twice-impeached Presidency, evinced an egoistic incapability, and proclivity to criminality but, nevertheless persists as a hazardous, highly toxic threat to the endurance of our Republican Democracy.

Donald Trump’s singular record in office presented a singularly inept misrule and a shockingly demonstrated perverse persona, whose distorted perception challenges empirical analysis. We may have in past writings, commented sufficiently on his bizarre and neurotic egocentrism, one, manifested in the perverse exclusion of empirical reality from consideration, an unabashed incompetency, and a demonstrated lack of moral compass,. At the risk of redundancy, we find ourselves unable to resist another challenging essay at such comprehension; our present attempt, founded in our non-profession. presumed, account of his errant development and later maturation.

In such challenging endeavor, two French expressions appear to be descriptively utilitarian:viz., “mauvais enfant,” and “infant terrible.” To simply define these closely related appellations, one might visualize an obnoxious child, who maintains a combination of an unencumbered and unrestrainable ego, adamantly unrestrained by his anarchistic behavioral resolve, in a limitless and neurotic drive for constante recognition and adored celebrity.

We have,permissibly presumed, Donald Trump’s childhood, as evincing early and grossly distorted traits of self-presumed celebrity and a consequent, unrequitable need for adoration; later developing into an adult-age demonstrated need for unlimited adulation (“cult worship”) regarding his distorted perceptions and singular anti-societal behavior. Our protagonist’s innate and insatiable need for attention and adoration may be illustrated by the anecdotal example of the young child who tactically and painfully, kicks his sitting mother in the shins, despite the expectation of a punitive response, yet prioritizing his desperate, neurotic need for personal attention. By performing in the latter, analogous style, Trump can in garnering such needed attention, delude himself into believing that he is successful (“a winner”), but, each such neurotic success is experienced only temporarily,.

Such lifelong, all-consuming egocentric preoccupation with his neurotic agenda has, predictably, led to Presidential failures and shameful disgrace to the Nation, internationally. and domestically. In the category of international malpractice, for example, because of his personal neurotic preoccupations, and his consequent indifference to the National interest, he has befriended autocratic leaders like Putin and other tyrannical American enemies in comforting exchange for their tactical adoration, In said personal endeavors, he has threatened Ukraine and the existence of NATO, the latter constituting the most essential peacekeeping force since the end of the Second World, withdrew from the Paris Treaty on the environment, castigated immigrants, and separated their families, and in general so comported himself, (because of his self-absorbed, infantile egomania ) to be an international laughingstock. A small, but representative sample of his domestic catastrophes might include, his gross negligence during the pandemic, resulting in tens of thousands of unnecessary American mortalities, his elimination of regulatory protections, his bigotry against, and abuse of women, ultimately resulting in a reversal of their right to abortion (with the necessary assistance of certain Justices of SCOTUS, appointed by him, his support of Christian White Nationalists, not to mention his election denial and sponsorship of an insurrection against the American Government. Is it necessary to add to this dumpster-full sample of disgrace, his two Congressional impeachments, his criminal convictions and a full cornucopia of his criminal indictments?

In support of our thematic,. neurotic, “enfant terrible,” or “mauvais enfant,” Trump, obviously unabashed, and with the encouragement of his adoring MAGA cult, continues, at age 71 to reprise his insatiable, lifelong infantile aspiration for special attention and demonstrated adoration. By his empirical acts and pronouncements, we are obliged to conclude that Trump is hampered by his neurotic drive for attention and perceived love, which has persevered in his corpulent maturity, orange-dyed hair, and attainment of 71 years of age.

We are obliged, by our dedicated principles of candor, to admit that Donald J. Trump has, indeed, been enormously successful in his efforts to attract personal attention through T.V. news and otherwise. His visage, red tie, and orange-dyed hair have proven to be irresistible to the public view, albeit with the analogous aesthetic and irresistible impetus of an unsuccessful attempt to avoid looking at roadkill.

In our case, it is MSNBC, largely, because we see the reportage as objective, but also because of its personally appealing center-liberal context. It is our view that, unlike entertainment choices, such sources of information should maintain an appropriate atmosphere of trust.

As our readers know, our penchant has eternally been for using language most reflective of the speaker’s or writer’s intended meaning. This principle is crucial in aesthetic composition, viz., poetry, and essays. As a matter of civic importance, news reporting should employ appropriate and clear vocabulary. vital to the moral responsibility of empirical accuracy, and resulting in confident acceptance. [Bizarre or misleading phraseology]: The remark, “I just can’t wrap my head around it.” instead of, “I cannot understand or comprehend the concept; ” “Take a listen,” instead of “Listen to this, “the observation, “There is no there, there,” rather than there is no basis for it,” the phrase, “We will return on the other side,” instead off we will resume after the commercial, or the station break,” the observation that, “These are “table-top” issues,” in place of, relate to matters of practical living,” or the euphemism, “communities of color,” instead of black or brown Americans, in the context of the delivery of the news detracts from the reality of the message and may be better reserved for more casual programs.

There is, notably, one truly mystifying ubiquitous verbal phenomenon, not especially limited to the media news, and, unlike the above, one while unaccountable and while, perhaps, not harmful, nevertheless, is entirely inexplicable and inappropriate. This matter refers to the simple, too often used and misused word, “so.” The word’s appropriate utility is ubiquitously utilized used in an explanatory context as in, “It was raining [so] we, took the umbrella,” or, They did not show up [so] we left without them,” Nevertheless, the word has somehow been transmogrified to a mandatory use as prefatory to the response to questions, regardless of the subject, For example, an environmental expert may be questioned about the rate of global warming. His response predictably, and unexplainably, will be preceded by the word, “so.'” An eye witness may be asked about the facts of an auto accident and will, predictably precede her specific response with the seemingly mandatory word, “so.”We find the inappropriate use of the word, “so,” misleading, and its misuse be discouraged.

The election of Franklin Delano Roosevelt was conceivably caused by the popular need for a paternal leader who was publicly perceived as capable of confidently rescuing the nation from the “Great Depression.” His success and visibly valiant persona saw his multiple re-elections as a reflection of a continuing public’s perception of the need for a strong paternal overseer of America’s great challenges in the Second World War, and assurance of steadfast resolve and optimistic morale, As we see it, the election of the mainstream, bland persona of Jimmy Carter. was a telling reflection of an exhausted Nation’s desire to return to normalcy, following the bizarre intrigues of the Nixon Presidency, In addition, the successful candidacy of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy empirically can be seen as a reflection of the Nation’s desire for a charismatic, attractive leader, capable of dealing with the aggressive policies of Russia, and as a contrasting personality following the unexciting, bland, but acceptable, performance of President Jimmy Carter,

Nevertheless, we are somewhat less confident of our contextual understanding of the “surprise” election of real estate grifter and tasteless game show host, Donald Trump, It would appear to us that many mainstream voters stayed home and did not vote for his opponent, Hilary Clinton and that the loosely conglomerated, disgruntled inventory of populist underbelly, deigned to vote and did so for that aberrant and non-conventional candidate. The damaging results to society and the government are only too well known. The thematic, mirror at the time, reflected an arithmetic electoral college advantage granted to the Nation’s sizeable inventory of grievance-saturated populists over the better-informed mainstream American voter. Two Congressional impeachments and a full “cornucopia” of felonious indictments resulted from Trump’s aberrative conduct of National affairs. The mirror consequently began to reflect an alarming and visually sharp cleavage between the democracy-loving, traditional citizenry and a large, toxic, metastasizing cult of authoritarian Trump sycophants. It became clear in its reflection to the American spectator of an existential threat to the continued existence of the Democratic Republic and its way of life.

A recent, cursory gaze into the National Mirror is sufficient to reliably reflect the Nation’s approval of the reconfigured Democratic Presidential ticket (of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz), embodying a clear reflection of mainstream citizens who desire, in the interest of the Nation and the continued existence of our Democratic Republic, to cast their determined votes for such ticket. Any current view of another Trump Presidency would reflect a preponderance of experienced repugnance for the Otrange, would-be-Autocrat, and a fatigued but implacable desire for customary normalcy and right principle.

Our thematic National Mirror has the potential to disappoint at times — but never lies.

In many cases, its creation of a perceived need for, or of the utility of the item of the mass marketing has resulted in successful sales and millions of dollars for the commercial advertisers and the television medium itself. This, of course, is to be distinguished from the debates and public appearances of the competing candidates and their partisan supporters., desirous of acquainting the prospective voter with t their posture on issues in the elective competition. By contrast, programs of mass media merchandising candidates by definitional and dynamic contrast. is one-sided and mono-focused upon the undertaken and well-paid mission to obtain votes for their sponsor. We see such media-sales companies that are evaluated by the total number of persuaded voters and irrespective of the substantive results of the election, as an interference with, or an intentional distortion of democracy.

It is also possible to see the mass sales promotion of candidates as a demonstrated and principled expression of disrespect for the determinative capability or the lack of established principle on the part of the citizen television viewer. A God who is described as “omnipotent” does not tire easily, and further, experts have determined that our Planet is no less than four billion, three hundred million years old. Reading the declaration as literature, viz., as symbolic of its author’s meaning we might rationally read the symbolic declaration to signify that the World was created in stages.

The ubiquitous application of this more useful and credible rendition, would clarify the apocryphal history of Adam and Eve (mankind). The universally accepted version is that Eve tempted Adam to eat of the serpent occupied, forbidden “Tree of Knowledge” causing the two (mankind) to be forever banished from the Garden of Eden. Religion had thus indicted all future mankind with this “Original Sin,” so that from innocent birth to the end of life, man is a sinner and is eternally obliged to pursue redemption.

The Serpent, as Biblically depicted, induced Eve to enticingly tempt Adam (“Adam in Hebrew, means “earth”) to eat an apple from the forbidden “Tree of Knowledge” can more usefully be read in symbolically rational terms. The “serpent” residing in the Tree has grossly and unfairly been adjudged to be an evil entity. Yet readings of the World’s prominent scholars of ancient myth, such as Joseph Campbell and Edith Hamilton, reveal that the snake was the symbol of fertility, It is but a small skip and a jump to assume that the snake, viz., the symbol of fertility, lodged in the Tree of Knowledge, can be perceived as the symbol of mental (humanistic) fertility. In our view, Eve being induced by the snake to tempt Adam (“Man”) to partake of the Tree of Knowledge represents a salubrious invitation to conscious reality, i.e. “reason. “

It would be unlikely to find a mainstream American citizen who did not experience feelings of relief and euphoric happiness at viewing the television extravaganza of the National Convention of the Democratic Party Convention. In addition to the official nomination and acceptance of the party’s selection for President and Vice-president of the exciting and attractive Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, the Mardi Gras celebration, celebratorily and colorfully concluding with a monsoon of red, white, and blue balloons, may have been the most stimulating and exciting televised event of the year, including the super bowl.

Previous feelings of worry and despair relative to the unspeakable, but, nevertheless, imminent threat of a second Trump term of Presidency., were dispelled by the huge celebrant crowd of jubilant attendees, vocally expressing joy and optimism for the success of the newly configured ticket. The celebrants reveled in the supportive remarks of identified speakers, including some patriotic Republicans who demonstrated the priority of their patriotic concerns for the Democratic Republic exceeding their political partisanship.

The occasion was uplifting and implicitly prescient that next November will witness the defeat of the morally repugnant, would-be autocrat, Donald Trump, and his sizeable, lemming-like cult of MAGA acolytes. The feeling of renewed security and confidence in the endurance of our historically democratic way of life was palpable and was thunderously expressed.

We, too, share such renewed feelings of optimism and regenerated hope in the empirical prevalence of our traditional way of life over the advent of despotic authoritarianism but, nevertheless, maintain a perseverant, subtle fear of political catastrophe, the eternal chronic potential of which is wisely to be eternally, considered.

Our fear is not neurotic, but, rather, wide-eyed and empirical, It is founded upon our inability to comprehend the nature of the mindset attributable to such a sizeable population of Trump supporters. No breach of ethics, familial or official, no act of impropriety or incapability, and no acts of venal turpitude, including behavior ranging from blatant tax fraud, bribery, and public deception to treason against the Nation and commerce with its historical enemies, would appear to be sufficient to diminish their avid support. They have shown themselves to be enigmatic and impossible to comprehend. The fateful election to the Presidency by Donald Trump was declared to be a “surprise;” surprises, we learned can be precarious; the latter, forever confirmed by the unexpected, and fateful elevation of Donald Trump to the Nation’s Oval Office.

Should, as now appears to be eminently possible, Donald Trump be defeated in the coming Presidential election, we would be sophomorically irresponsible and empirically, foolhardy to assume that “Trumpism” and Christian White Nationalism, as metastatic, cancers to democracy will abate. Such pathology will, unfortunately, toxically persist as an existential threat to our Democratic Republic and must be eternally, pragmatically considered.

The analogical reference to human physiology, often used by political scientists, “The Body Politic,” is useful to the theme and context of the present, writing. We have chosen that expression to refer to two, inarguably, useless but common reactions to presenting problems, of despair and avoidance, in time succeeded by a subsequent brief, but alarming episode making mandatory a startling recognition of the presenting anatomical problem. This analogically relevant phenomenon is often seen in incidents of mild heart discomfiture or the alarming occurrence of a minor stroke.

Until this decisive moment, mainstream American citizens were in a general mood of concerned resignation or, alternatively, an emotionally protective state of avoidance of recognition of the highly vulnerable state of our Nation’s venerated democracy brought about by the prodigious number of MAGA Trump cultists, evident in mainstream America where like reactions of hapless despair or emotionally protective avoidance were notable.

It appeared to be the public revelation of the blatantly fascistic content of the MAGA agenda for 2025, combined with Trump’s declarations of intention to rule as a dictator and his threats of “retribution” against his detractors, significantly aggravated by his selection of the apparent avatar of atavistic and dark ages mentality, T.J. Vance, that sounded the publically broadcasted “Code Blue” alarm that blared in our consciousness and that of a newly awakened and vitally and concerned unified mainstream America.

The patriotic and selfless withdrawal of candidacy for President by the patriotic President Joseph Biden set the stage for the candidacy of the younger and more youthfully energetic Vice-President, Kamala Harris who, in turn, wisely selected the publicly appealing Tim Walz as her running mate. The National reaction of the mainstream citizenry, as shown by the atmosphere of the thousands of participants of the Democratic National Convention, which had previously varied from hapless despair to emotionally protective avoidance, had visibly metamorphosed into a public sense of relief and newly awakened optimism,

The recent Democratic National Convention was seen by the wide television audience to evince a remarkable show of universal relief, joy, and optimism, regarding the continued endurance of our invaluable and unique democracy and the continuance of its aspirational progress towards universal and inclusive equality.

The predictable cure and full recovery to optimum health of our Democratic Republic (“body politic”) will take place next November, and be effectively administered by a full dose of responsible and informed vote of its right-thinking citizenry

Most literate Americans know the names and respective persona of “First Ladies” like Dolly Madison, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Jackie Kennedy. Strangely, since such a singular event, Melania Trump, herself, has bizarrely, appeared to be AWOL or perhaps, MIA, from all media or public appearances.

Televised views of Joseph Biden often include his wife, First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden; televised views of Vice-President Kamala Harris are often in the presence of her husband, Doug Emhoff, the newly selected Vice-Presidential candidate, Tim Walz often observed by the television viewer in the company of his wife, Gwen, In contrast, sights of Donald Trump, during and after his Presidential term, consistently fail to include the rarely seen, mannequin-like frozen smile of Melania, As an interesting aside, it is notable that, Melania, consistent with Trump’s previous (divorced) spouses, is an immigrant; a status, perniciously defamed and violently castigated by Trump as “Caravans of criminals, drug dealers, and rapists.”

We can conceive of a highly probable scenario, in which a completely self-absorbed person, like our dyed orange-colored hair protagonist, incapable of emotion which requires mutual surrender of self, marries (“acquires”) Melania as a trophy-like acquisition for her inarguable beauty and youthful appearance. On the extremely rare times that the television media has transmitted pictures of the Trump First Lady, she was attired in designer dresses, no doubt of high-priced value. As we subjectively perceive it, Melania has willingly;y accepted the role of mannequin for the rewarding franchise of costly designer clothes and accessories, in place of a loving and devoted marriage. She gets her unlimited wardrobe (and money), and he gets a public show of faux masculine desirability and ownership.

Why then should the First Lady sensibly choose to wrinkle her designer dress, scuff herb Italian imported shoes, or smear her makeup by boring attendance in Court or in the political arena? She has quite enough stress and excitement with the choices of designer clothes, hairstyles, and cosmetics

It would logically be the case, that if one were systemically inclined to accept the meme that the contents of the “Good Book” (the New Testament) are irrefutable, that he is no doubt, a subscriber to its “irrefutable” determinations, such as: “Man, is the center of the universe, consequently, the moon travels around the Earth, that the “omnipotent” Deity created the Earth and its inhabitants, fauna, and flora in six days and despite His Omnipotency” needed to rest on the seventh, the Sabbath, which is to be observed by Man in pious rest from labor, each Sunday. Notably, experts in the field have conclusively determined that the Planet’s history extends to upwards of four billion, three hundred million years. If so, one is predictably prepared to follow the harsh Biblical declaration that “unrepentant” homosexuals are an “abomination” and “destined to go to Hell.”
